Rock
n' Soul Foundation Studio
Surrounded
by photos of Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles, classic album covers, and images from
his many musical influences, Russ is "at home" when he sits behind the mixing
console. Not only has he been fine-tuning his home-based project studio for
several years, he also draws inspiration from the variety of musical styles he
has absorbed since first strapping on a guitar over thirty years ago.
Based around a custom built PC, Russ recently added a
second Frontier Design Group Tango24 eight track digital interface, allowing him
to double the number of tracks he can record simultaneously. He looks forward to
getting more detail in his mixes, especially with drums, since he can now
isolate and record drums individually. He also recently upgraded his software to Sonar 3.0
Producer Edition, which provides a wide range of new plug-in effects and
broadens the sonic palette Russ has available. "As my collection of plug-ins
continues to grow, I am working to add more variety to my songs," says an
enthusiastic Russ.
He
has also started writing tunes with several co-writers, both locally and across
the country. "It's great when you can send music across the Internet so other
writers can hear the songs as they progress," says Russ, "It definitely makes
the creative process more collaborative."
Russ has already completed his second
CD and worked hard to polish the songs to a level far superior to his first
offerings. "There is no comparison to the tracks on my first CD and Point
of View, my second release," Russ comments. "Not only have I become more familiar with
my equipment, but I'm now comfortable enough as an engineer to begin
experimenting a little more, looking for new sounds and production nuances I
could previously only dream about."
As
Russ finishes new tracks, they will become available on the website!
